The biggest BS holiday is quickly approaching us. You know it because as a chef wife, you may have experienced this holiday in another lifetime, years before your chef was a chef. Restaurants are packed with love birds and lust birds alike dining over Valentine themed entrees and creme brulee in heart shaped dishes. If I sound bitter, it's because I am. Why can't I go out on the 14th and looks longingly into my husband's eyes sharing a heart-shaped box of cheap chocolates? Oh yeah, because he'll be deep in the layers of Perry St making all the deuces happy.
But I've accepted my fate, really I hate. Besides, it's now an excuse to save money for our trip to Italy this spring. In the Battes home, Valentine's Day doesn't exist this year. We're better off for it, too. Right?

Hate the holiday, love the heart-shaped box of cheap chocolates.
Where in Italy are you going?
Yeah, I'm not excited about this holiday,at all. I really think we need a "chefwives" holiday.
Saving for Italy is totally worth it though!

Go to Perry St. towards the end of his shift and have a glass of champagne at the bar. He will be happy that you picked him up, especially if you look super-sexy.

I am taking my kids to a Valentines Day party that night. Usually, I sit and home and curse a lot.

I hear ya... it's not only about not seeing them on Vday, but it is about them being cranky, tired, busy, and pissed off all week, and having to spend it with 1000s of other couples but not his own significant other. Saw my chef writing up a dessert recipe for his Vday menu, and I said jokingly (kinda), "Oooh that looks good, are you going to be making me one?" He said, "Are you crazy?" Looks like the only one the chef isn't gonna be cooking for this lovebug season is me...
My (chef) boyfriend and I were supposed to do something on Sunday because he is working. Which is fine, except now he wants to go snowboarding from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and maybe he has family coming in to town. I am used to being flexible, but this is ridiculous. Is it too much to ask for a day of couple time?

I hear you, Melia.
