Tame the Beast

Your chef is working. (duh) You're all alone at home. Your stomach is growling, you're starving. And at the lowest point in the food stock, you open up the fridge ..and if you're like me all you see is a door full of condiments and a couple of water bottles. The pantry is no better. A box of pudding mix, a handful of stale chips crumbled at the bottom of the bag, and a box of waffle cones.

Have you reached this point? Have you eaten something shameless? I know I have! Not too long ago I was faced with a lack of food and it was too late to order in. So I made some frozen ravioli. There wasn't any sauce either so I topped it with that spray butter you're supposed to put on corn on the cob. I've topped a dry frozen burrito with a slice of American cheese. I've cut up some way old iceberg to make a salad and since there was no dressing I added some super thick raspberry jelly/sauce. SICK. Every bite was worse than the last, but the growling beast in my stomach had to be tamed.

So what have you eaten in desperation??

I have a guilty secret...ragu has a shelf stable cheddar cheese sauce that actually makes pretty decent macaroni & cheese. My hubby makes fun of it all the time, but on days when there's nothing else or I'm in a huge hurry, it works.

We always have pasta around the house, so I cook it and swirl around in some butter. Garnish with parmesan and fleur de sel, and it's a pretty good hunger fix.

Food is one thing I'm never without, but a friend with an empty refrigerator/wallet once ate a bowl of barbeque sauce thinned with water - kind of like the poor man's tomato soup, but grosser.

Well my faithful stand by is a bowl of special k cereal. My hubby even teases me...cereal again. And his mother thinks it is just horriable that I do not cook a full meal for him to come home to. UGH!

I suffer guilt if I don't prepare a proper meal so that my husband can have leftovers for dinner when he gets home. Recently, I haven't been eating the meal as I don't really have an appetite by evening, but I can't help but feel like I have to cook for him anyways. Otherwise, he'd live off of canned soup, and I don't want that.

But, sometimes I'll cook, but just have cheese and baguette for dinner, like I did last night. :)

The saddest thing I've ever eaten was during college and it was a bowl of rice with salt.

My first year in college I'd just open a can of tuna and chow down with a fork.

I always keep cereal around. I eat cereal constantly when my hubby is gone. Sometimes I will make pasta with canned sauce, but that is only when I feel ambitious!
