50 Things

Once I saw this list, I just had to retweet it.

50 Things They Never Told You About Being A Chef

Some of my favorites include:

#2 You'll never meet new people because your social life deteriorates into non-existance.

#13- 15  Your feet, back and hands will get destroyed.
#24 Your shortest work days will be longer than   most people's longest...
I read them with Erik and we both agreed that about 90% of these situations apply to him. when you pile it all up into this list, this is once crazy, upside down industry.

So what do you think? How accurate is this list? Would it have stopped your chef from being a chef?

Food is Love,
Hilary

I found this and read it to my boyfriend. We agreed on almost everything! Although, number 49 sounded really gross.

So glad that I found this blog. Although I am a therapist and say this over and over when talking up the value of group therapy, the universality piece, that is knowing that you are not alone is about 60% of the therapeutic process. I have been dating a chef for about 6 months, and the first couple months were fabulous. One of the things that I found the most admirable about him, his work ethic, however, is now really affecting our relationship. I often feel that he is not present when we are together, as it seems that he always thinking about work. This has been the topic of many an arguments between us, the latest of which is happening at the moment. Yesterday I was very frustrated, and he pulled the "50 things of being a chef" card, which at the time infuriated me. But now finding this blog has softened my position a bit, I am feeling a bit more hopeful; yesterday I was convinced that this was it. But I want to fight for us, because I know we can work. Thank you so much for this blog and the wonderful words of encouragement.

My chef boyfriend has been in the industry for over 10 years - "earning" his way from front of the house, to back of the house, holding an executive chef position, and now transitioning to GM position. We've been dating for almost 5 of those years, and no matter what position he's in, nearly all of these points applied to him.

I must say, I just shared the list with him over email, and let him know that #28 scares me to death.
